Ingredients That Help Battle Cold & Flu Symptoms


The following are some ingredients that can be very beneficial to you when you are suffering from the common cold and flu. Lemon and ginger can be added to teas. Garlic, ginger, and onion can be added to stir-frys. The spices and green chillies can be added to curries and soups.  In addition to adding flavour and aroma, these ingredients have of a variety of properties that can help alleviate cold and flu symptoms.

Note:

          To make lemon ginger tea, steep 1 Tbsp. of freshly grated ginger in 1 cup of boiling water for 5 min. Strain the tea and then add 1 Tbsp. of freshly squeezed lemon juice and 1 Tbsp. honey. This tea can clear up the sinuses and relieve sore throat.

          To make coriander tea, boil 1 tsp. crushed coriander seeds and 1 tsp. fennel seeds in 2 cups of water for 5 min. Add 1 tsp. of freshly grated ginger, a pinch of cinnamon, and let infuse for 5 min. Strain and drink. This tea can help reduce fever, and aid digestion.

      I wouldn’t recommend using turmeric supplements. I haven’t heard about the liver disorders, but I know excess turmeric increase the risk of gallstones and kidney stone formation due to the high levels of oxalate found in turmeric.
