Akshaya’s 5th Birthday

Since having started on a new project I have been super busy and unable to keep up with my blog posts. As I am getting used to the new routine, hopefully I will be posting on a more regular basis.

Last month we celebrated my daughter’s 5th birthday with a Princess Jasmine-themed birthday party. Prior to her birthday on December 11th, Akshaya was in the ER due to uncontrollable cough and wheeze. As a result she was put on a five day course of an oral steroid and spent the week absent from school. I like to take pride in that I am well-organized but with two kids at home, sleepless nights with my daughter and work, I didn’t get time for any party-planning. Nonetheless the party came together just in the nick of time with the help of my husband and parents.

The cake, two tiers of moist vanilla cake, was baked the night before and decorated the morning of the party. Due to time constraints I opted to cover the whole bottom tier in swirls of white chocolate buttercream rather than fondant. Usually I like making my own fondant/gumpaste cake toppers, but to save time and my sanity I used my daughter’s Aladdin figurines that we had previously purchased from the Disney store.

My husband and I spent the morning of our daughter’s party running from store to store picking up balloons, purchasing tablecloths and paper plates, decorating, and ordering food while my parents babysat our children and helped set up. We were all absolutely tired but it was well worth it to see the smile on my daughter’s precious face. Even though she was still recovering, Akshaya was able to have a good time with her close friends and family.

Below is a picture of the table we set up for the guests. Akshaya wanted to set this up herself and I think she did a pretty amazing job! The little gold lantern favour boxes were filled with macaroons and gold chocolate coins. The extra gold coins and some jewels from the dollar store were added to dress up the table.

Honourable Mentions

These are the wonderful extras that made my daughter’s party all the more special:

This year since my daughter wanted to invite some of her close friends, I had a few invitations printed. Alyssa Hoelzli from DesignsbyLyssaLou designed this beautiful Jasmine-themed invitation and thank you card. You can check out her Facebook page HERE. Unfortunately if you live in Canada, you need to have the invitations printed yourself. I had Akshaya’s invitations printed at Staples Copy and Print Centre and I was very pleased with their quality and pricing.

Angela Nushis of Angie’s Sweet Little Kitchen made two dozen scrumptious macaroons and two dozen cake pops to complete the cake table. As usual I was impressed with the quality, taste, and beautiful packaging. Since I was unable to pick up my order due to my daughter being sick, lovely Angie offered to deliver my order on the day of the party. If you live in the GTA or neighbouring cities, I highly recommend Angie for all your sweet treat orders. She makes all sorts for delicious creations from cakes, cupcakes, and cake pops, to cookies, macaroons, pies, and biscotti! For order and pricing inquiries you can contact Angie through her Facebook page HERE.

A Princess Jasmine birthday party would not be complete without Princess Jasmine of course! I hired Princess Jasmine through Little Jingle Beans as a special gift to my daughter. My daughter was completely mesmerized by Princess Jasmine’s beauty as were the other children that attended the party. Princess Jasmine provided a little over an hour’s worth of entertainment through storytelling, dance, songs, interactive games, face painting and more! The kids, my mom, my sister, and my friend all enjoyed the performance. Little Jingle Beans currently services Toronto, The GTA, Vaughan, Brampton, Burlington, Mississauga, Oakville, Thornhill, Richmond Hill, Hamilton, Milton, Barrie, Ajax, Pickering and more! Be sure to follow LJB’s Facebook page HERE for great deals and special offers.

I originally had a lot of ideas for my daughter’s Princess Jasmine-themed birthday party and although I couldn’t include everything I wanted to include I was quite content with what we were able to pull together in very little time. The guests enjoyed the entertainment, treats, drinks, and pizza and the birthday girl couldn’t stop talking about her party!
