My 5 Favourite Toddler-Friendly Dinnerware

When it comes to choosing the right dinnerware for your toddler and young children, there are so many different options to choose from. It can be overwhelming to find a product that meets your standards and is also the right price. In today’s post, I will be discussing five of my mealtime favourites, that we have had the pleasure of using over the past few months.

  1. EZPZ Fun

If you follow me on Instagram, you probably know how fond I am of the EZPZ mats. This is the only product on the market that is both a placemat and bowl/plate in one. This is such a bonus for me, because as we all know toddlers and young children can be quite messy eaters. I even use these mats to serve smoothie bowls and soups for my older children (ages 7, and 6). Made entirely of high quality, food-safe silicone, the EZPZ mats are microwave, oven (up to 350 degrees F) and dishwasher-safe. Another great feature is the fact that  EZPZ mats suction onto almost any surface, eliminating accidental spills. When we go out to restaurants, I always take a EZPZ mini mat with me for my two-year old just so he can also enjoy his meal without me having to worry about him dropping his plate and his food. There are a variety of sizes, colours, and mats to choose from. To learn more about the EZPZ products, click here.

2. Avanchy

For those you of looking for an Earth-friendly option, Avanchy is the way to go! Avanchy provides sustainable bowls and plates made from beautiful 100% organic bamboo as well as a bowl made of stainless steel. All the products also contain silicone and can be suctioned to the table/highchair to prevent accidental spills. The entire Avanchy line of baby bowls, plates, spoons, and forks are non-toxic and earth-friendly which means they do not contain BPA, BPS, PVE, Lead, and Phthalate. The only downside is the maintenance factor. The bamboo plates need to be wiped and then cleaned with hot soapy water, immediately after use. They also need to be dried right away and coated with mineral oil periodically, to prevent deterioration. The plates are neither microwave or dishwasher-safe. I often use our Avanchy toddler plate as a shared snack tray for the older kids. The stainless steel bowl comes with an air-tight lid, and it is a great solution for storing smoothies and overnight oats in. To learn more about Avanchy products, click here.

3. Kiddobloom

The Kiddobloom dinnerware set is the newest addition to our collection of children’s dinnerware sets, however I am so in love with this set already. Not only is it super adorable, but it is made with high-quality, sturdy, stainless steel. Being of South-Asian heritage, the stainless steel divided plate reminds me so much of the stainless steel Thaali plates from South-Asian restaurants. So far we have been using our Kiddobloom sets for breakfast just because I love how breakfast looks in the sets. I am especially fond of the little cup which is perfect for milk, smoothies, and even tea! However, I will also be using this set as a mini Thaali plate for my children to serve traditional Tamil/Indian food in. This set does not have suction, however it is so easy to wash (no rusting thus far even though I don’t get to dry it right away), and does not retain odours. Currently there are no Canadian retailers, however you can stop directly from the Kiddobloom website or Amazon.com. Amazon offers a better deal.

Price Range: $15.99 USD – $69.99 USD.

4. Oogaa Baby

The Oogaa silicone meal-time products are BPA, BPS, and phthalate free, teething friendly, microwave-safe as well as oven-safe. I have used my Oogaa plate as a baking tray and made baked oatmeal and banana bread in them – they turned out great! One thing to keep in mind before purchasing, is that scented soaps cannot be used to wash Oogaa products as it leaves a residue and lingering soapy taste and smell. The cute pictures on the sides of the bowl and plate can be troublesome to clean completely as food does get trapped in them. Another thing to consider is that the bowl and plate do not suction onto any surface to prevent accidental spills. Although these plates come in a wide variety of colours, the selection isn’t as great in Canada. Canadian Retailer: Baby Joy & Bed Bath and Beyond

Price Range: $ 9.99 – $13.99 CND plus

5. Re-Play

Re-Play meal-time products are made from recycled milk cartons, however they are BPA and BPS free. They come in a large assortment of colours and are very cost-effective. The plates and bowls are very sturdy even though they are light-weight. They are also dish-washer safe. I have used the bowls for both cold and hot foods, and find that the bowls do not retain odour and they definitely do not stain. The only thing I wish it had, is suction. Because they are so light-weight, they slide around easily on a highchair food tray. To learn more about the Re-Play mealtime products, click here.
