2015 has been an year of learning and opportunities for me.  As overwhelming and busy as the year was with the start of this blog and working as part of a new local magazine, I wouldn’t change a thing and here is why. Being a stay-at-home mom is not easy, at least in my opinion. Sure there are the perks of staying home such as being able to spend time with your children and watching them grow without missing anything, but I was used to (and as crazy as it sounds enjoyed) my busy lifestyle until my son was born. At one point I was a wife, mom, pregnant, a full-time student, and a tutor on the weekends. I was used to the rushed lifestyle and as soon as I started staying home I felt the need to complete a certain number of tasks in a day to keep busy and feel a sense of accomplishment. However having had the opportunity to stay at home for the past three years has allowed me the time to experiment in the kitchen, cook daily, read up on my latest interests, and most importantly be a better daughter, wife, and mother by spending more quality time with my parents, husband, and children.

Believe it or not, my husband actually wanted me to start this blog as a way for me to slow down and rest. He was becoming slightly worried with me cleaning multiple times a day, organizing and then reorganizing, and running around grocery shopping almost daily while having conversations with strangers about healthy eating in the organic and natural foods aisles. I am so fortunate to have had the support and encouragement of my family and friends. They gave me constructive feedback and the confidence I needed when I was skeptical of how others would receive my posts. A few months into writing I was overwhelmed by the kind emails from friends and strangers alike. My intention is not to be popular or make money off my writing so it means a lot when others comment, share their thoughts about my page and share my blog with others. If it wasn’t for my readers, I wouldn’t be motivated to keep going, so thank you to all of you!

This blog has opened up many doors for me and given me to the opportunity to build friendships with many wonderful people for which I am very grateful. Although I haven’t kept up to date with my blog in the last two months due to a new project, I hope to contribute to my blog on a regular basis from now on. I have many new ideas in store for 2016 and lots of healthy recipes to share. This year I also hope to post more recipes and posts in general that reflect my culture. Those that know me know that I am all about embracing and celebrating my cultural identity so I would love to portray that aspect of me and my life on Modern Day Brown Mom as well.

Feel free to contact me with ideas and topics that you would like to hear about too.

Happy New Year from my family to yours! May 2016 be a blessed year for all of us!

  1. […] This year my five-year old daughter made her first New Year Resolutions. One of my daughter’s resolutions was to learn how to cook and since she has made that resolution I have made attempts to include my little girl in the kitchen once a week. You can read about how I planned to incorporate my five-year-old in the kitchen here. […]
