Spring Table Setting

March is almost here which means Spring is just around the corner! Although Fall is my favourite season, Spring comes in at a close second. I love Spring for its ability to bring everything that was once seemingly dead, back to life again. I look forward to seeing green grass peek through the snow and to watching the first batch of flowers bloom: Spring flowers are my absolute favourite! When it comes to décor, I love incorporating pastels and bright yellows into my everyday décor and adding vases of fresh Spring flowers, particularly tulips, around the home.

Last weekend my husband and I along with our kids, went shopping for tabletop décor to make our dining table feel fresh and vibrant for Spring. My kids love coming on shopping trips such as this one so that they can choose items as well, which is not necessarily a bad thing because luckily they have good taste. Since we all spend a lot of time on the dining table together and enjoy changing the table setting according to the season, we are often in search of inexpensive items. We purchase items from various stores and combine them to create a one-of-a-kind look.

The robin’s egg blue table cloth below, was my first purchase and the inspiration behind the whole table setting. The colour reminds me of Spring and it was literally a steal from Winners for just $12.99 CND.

The kids plates, cutlery, and tumblers are all from Pottery Barn Kids. The Beatrix Potter line is absolutely gorgeous and perfect for Spring as well as Easter. The turquoise dinner plate is not part of the Beatrix Potter collection but I love how the blue compliments the Beatrix Potter collection. The dessert plate with scalloped edges is made of shatterproof melamine, lead and PBA-free, and features a beautiful illustration from the classic The Tales of Peter Rabbit. The dessert plates are $11.00 CND each, the tumblers $6.00 CND each, the utensils $9.00 CND each, and the dinner plates also $9.00 CND each. Additional items that are part of the Beatrix Potter collection can be viewed here.

The charger plates, an older purchase, were $5.00 CND each and purchased at The Real Canadian Superstore.  I love the wood look and texture of the chargers and find that these plates work well all year round with all my seasonal décor. The jute placemats were a recent purchase from the Real Canadian Superstore but they were a great deal as they were on sale for $2.27 CND each from $4.00 CND.

These beautiful bunny egg cups really add a special touch to a breakfast table or an Easter table setting. My son and I noticed these at the bookstore as we were heading over to the children’s book section. I bought one each for my two children as they often enjoy an boiled egg for breakfast with their toast. The egg cups, purchased from Indigo, were $8.00 CND each.

The vases holding the fresh tulips are none other than sugar and tea canisters. I like the vintage feel of the canisters and think that they work will with the table setting. The canisters were purchased months ago and on sale at the Real Canadian Superstore for $10.00 CND each.

The little bird that is sitting underneath the flowers was something that caught my daughter’s eye while we were out grocery shopping. It is actually a tea light candle holder but looks great as a decorative piece too. We found this little piece on sale for 2.47 CND each at The Real Canadian Superstore.

The little bunny and lettuce leaf dish and the bunny salt and pepper shakers were chosen by my daughter. She actually insisted on adding the bunny theme that you see throughout the table. The dish was bought at Winners for $14.99 CND and the salt and pepper shakers were bought as a set for $9.99 CND.

My husband bought the table runner at Winners for $16.99 CND. It was the last piece that we were looking for to complete the table. I fell in love with the beautiful criss-cross design and the natural look which complimented our charger plates and place mats perfectly.

I added a wooden cutting board to the centre of the table. It not only compliments all the other natural elements such as the table mat, table runner, and charger plate but functions as a mini serving area as well. I usually keep freshly baked bread, muffins, or cake on the table and crumbs are far easier to clean from a cutting board rather than the table runner.

We are all very happy with how our Spring table project turned out. Even though it doesn’t really feel like Spring outside, it sure feels like Spring in here!
